Abstract

Japanese wax scale Ceroplastes japonicus (Green, 1921) (Hemiptera: Coccoidea: Cocidae) - a new pest in Croatia.

Abstract

In Croatia, Ceroplastes japonicus occurred first on laurel in Istra in 2005. This is a single-generation parasite overwintering as a mature female, attacking numerous plant species (32 different species in 2005-2007). Coleoptera Chilocorus bipustulatus and C. renipustulatus are the natural predators for Japanese wax scale. An August application of Actelic-50 [pirimiphos-methyl] or malathion presented an effective control.
