Abstract
With a view to its use as a timber species in Brazil, an account is given of the botanical and silvicultural characteristics, and wood properties, of Ceiba pentandra. Following an introduction which discusses the need for timber in Brazil, the other 14 sections of the document discuss the taxonomy and nomenclature of the species, its reproductive biology and phenology, natural occurrence, ecological aspects, seed technology, seedling production, silvicultural characteristics, genetic improvement, reforestation for wood production, wood properties, and products and utilization. The last section contains the bibliography.
