Detailed coverage of invasive species threatening livelihoods and the environment worldwide

Abstract

Management and strategy of invasive sea weed Spartina on mud flat.

Abstract

Two species of cordgrass Spartina anglica and S. alterniflora were introduced into China in 1963 and 1979; in 2003, S. alterniflora has been listed as a harmful invasive species. For China, it is necessary to establish strict control on these cordgrass species in order to protect the economic development on the mudflats, to maintain a well-balanced ecosystem of the sea and to fulfil the international obligations. The control strategies include conducting a survey on the spreading of these cordgrass, establishing an appropriate evaluation on the risk and potential damages of these invasive species and setting up a long-term monitoring and controlling system.
