Detailed coverage of invasive species threatening livelihoods and the environment worldwide

Abstract

Disease causal agents which are seed transmitted in maize, and maize seed treatment.

Abstract

The main seedborne fungal, bacterial and virus diseases of maize are identified, with the main ones in Croatia being the fungi Colletotrichum graminicola, Fusarium/Gibberella spp., Cochliobolus carbonum, Nigrospora spp., Sclerophthora macrospora and Ustilago maydis [U. zeae]. Ways by which seed may become infected are outlined, and methods of determining seed health status are described. In addition, a table is presented giving details of 6 fungicides and 10 insecticides which can be used in Croatia for treating maize seed against the most common diseases and pests.
