Abstract

Pesticidal property of some plants and bio-virus HTM against Helicoverpa armigera (Hübner).

Abstract

A study was conducted to evaluate the pesticidal properties of extracts of Argemone mexicana, Parthenium hysterophorus and Nicotiana plumbaginifolia leaves (collected from Uttar Pradesh, India) and microbial pesticide HaNPV (Bio-Virus H) at 200, 500, 1000 and 2000 ppm against Helicoverpa armigera. Among the botanical treatments, P. hysterophorus extract was superior to the other plant extracts. Dilute solution recorded higher pest mortality than more concentrated plant extracts. Bio-Virus H was also effective against H. armigera, although it is more expensive than P. hysterophorus. Based on the LC50 values, the leaf extract of P. hysterophorus and microbial pesticide HaNPV can be integrated for the eco-friendly management of H. armigera.
