Abstract

First report of Papaya ringspot virus infecting papaya in Côte d'Ivoire.

Abstract

In February 2006, pawpaw leaves with various symptoms, including yellow dots along the veins, yellow mosaic and shoe-stringing, were collected from different pawpaw-growing regions in Côte d'Ivoire. On some green fruits, symptoms were characterized by darker green ring spots or chlorotic spots, with darker green centres. Papaya ringspot virus (PRSV) was detected by ELISA in 9 of 57 infected leaf samples, and the identity of the virus was confirmed by RT-PCR. This is thought to be the first report of PRSV infecting pawpaw in Côte d'Ivoire.
