Abstract

Effect of sowing date and row spacing on incidence of major insect-pests of soybean, Glycine max (L.) Merrill.

Abstract

An experiment was conducted during 2002-03 in Rajasthan, India, to study the effect of sowing date (25 June. 10 July and 25 July) and row spacing (22.5, 30 and 45 cm) on the incidence of major insect pests, i.e. stem fly (Melanagromyza sojae), girdle beetle (Obereopsis brevis) and semilooper (Chrysodeixis acuta), of soyabean. The lowest mean stem fly and semilooper infestation was obtained with 25 June sowing and 45 cm row spacing. The lowest mean girdle beetle infestation was obtained with 25 July sowing and 45.0 cm spacing.
