Abstract

First report of brown leaf spot caused by Bipolaris australiensis on Cynodon spp. in China.

Abstract

From the summer of 2003 to the winter of 2005, a new disease was observed on Cynodon dactylon Ă— C. transvaalensis in Hubei. The disease, which caused discoloration of up to 25% of affected patches, was characterized by irregularly-shaped, brown, water-soaked spots on leaves and sheaths. Severely affected leaves became straw-coloured. The pathogen was identified as Bipolaris australiensis [Cochliobolus australiensis]. This is thought to be the first report of brown leaf spot caused by B. australiensis on Cynodon spp. in China.
