Abstract

A collection of ten brief articles covering some of the varying species and clones of cypress (Cupressus spp.) for plantation forestry in New Zealand. Topics covered include the strengths and weaknesses of C. macrocarpa, site selection, milling and the marketing challenge, silviculture, hybrid cypresses, wood properties, managing cypress canker (Seiridium cardinale and Seiridium unicorne), production of cypress timber by an industrial company, and a summary of a previously published article on the financial returns from C. macrocarpa. Comparisons are drawn between cypresses and Pinus radiata as plantation trees.
