Abstract

A new record of Meloidogyne graminicola on rice, Oryza sativa in Kerala.

Abstract

Rice crops growing in the highlands of Idukki District and in the water scarce areas of the Palakkad Belt in Kerala, India, were found to be heavily infested with root-knot nematode. Seedlings were yellowish and weak with heavily galled roots. Galls were white in colour and turned to light brown when old. Galls were restricted to terminal root tips which were thickened as small round knots. The nematode was identified as Meloidogyne graminicola based on morphological characteristics. This is thought to be the first report of this nematode from Idukki and Palakkad area in Kerala.
