Abstract

Situation in Basilicata: Metcalfa, its spread and biological control.

Abstract

Metcalfa pruinosawas introduced accidentally into Italy from North America in 1979. I t has been reported attacking citrus and apricot trees in Basilicata. It produces one generation a year and overwinters as an egg under the bark of trees. It can be parasitized by Neodryinus typhlocybae, also from North America, which appears to establish satisfactorily in southern Italy, attaining populations similar to those of M. pruinosa.
