Abstract

Bioefficacy of some granular insecticides against Leucinodes orbonalis Guen in brinjal.

Abstract

A field experiment was conducted during the 1990 kharif season in Ranchi, Bihar, India, on aubergine cv. Pusa Purple Round to study the efficacy of phorate, ethoprophos, carbofuran and aldicarb, each at 1.0 kg a.i./ha, against Leucinodes orbonalis. Carbofuran had the lowest shoot infestation percentage (1.77) and cost benefit ratio (1:1.28). Aldicarb gave the lowest fruit infestation percentage of 28.55 based on the number of fruits. Ethoprophos gave the lowest fruit infestation percentage of 19.40 based on fruit weight, cost (Rs 550/ha) and total cost of application (702.00), and the highest yield (70.10 q/ha), fruit yield (70.10 q/ha), net return (Rs 20 030/ha) and additional returns compared to the control (3294).
