Studies on seedborne fungi of pea varieties cultivated in Marathwada.
Seed samples of pea cultivars Azad Pl, Pusapragati and Bonneville, and a local cultivar, collected from Marathwada, Maharashtra, India, were analysed by agar plate or blotter method for the presence of seedborne fungi. The seeds of Azad Pl, Pusapragati, Bonneville and the local cultivar yielded 19, 20, 18 and 20 fungi, respectively. Aspergillus flavus, Aspergillus niger, Fusarium moniliforme [Gibberella moniliformis], F. roseum, Macrophomina phaseolina, Mucor globosus, Helminthosporium tetramera [Cochliobolus spicifer] and Rhizopus nigricans [R. stolonifer] were dominant. The agar plate method yielded a higher number of fungi than the standard blotter method.
