Invasive Species Compendium

Detailed coverage of invasive species threatening livelihoods and the environment worldwide

Abstract

Microlepidoptera in The Netherlands in 2003.

Abstract

In this 15th annual report, we record Cydia inquinatana for the first time from 2 localities in the province of Gelderland, Netherlands. We also refer to 4 other new records published elsewhere. The first larvae and mines of Tischeria decidua constitute the second and third records of this species. The leafminers on Cornus sp. (Antispila metalella and A. treitschkiella) are recorded with increasing frequency from city parks; the latter appears now to be at least partly bivoltine. The leafminers Bucculatrix demaryella, Calybites phasianipennella, Phyllonorycter pastorella and Bedellia somnulentella were exceedingly common in 2003 and several new provincial records are given. The very warm and dry summer of 2003 may be partly responsible for the abundance of some of these species. All checked Dutch Oegoconia quadripuncta are in fact O. caradjai and we therefore tentatively remove O. quadripuncta from the Dutch list. Other interesting records include the second Dutch Caloptilia suberinella, the fourth record of Coleophora niveicostella, an inland find of the halophilous Scrobipalpa salinella, the very rare tortricid Gynnidomorpha minimana from Gelderland, the sixth and seventh locality of Endothenia oblongana, the fourth and fifth specimens of Crocidosema plebejana, the first record of Cydia indivisa which was not taken with a pheromone trap and the first far inland records of Vitula biviella. In total we report here 115 species and 56 new provincial records, particularly for Overijssel (11) and Zeeland (14).
