Abstract

A checklist on nematode-plant associations in the Arab countries.

Abstract

This compilation contains 216 species belonging to 65 genera of nematodes associated with plants in the Arab countries. Certain plant parasitic nematode genera/species are reported from only one country such as: Hirschmanniella oryzae, Nacobbus aberrans, Nothocriconemella mutabilis, Pratylenchoides spp., Pseudhalenchus anchilisposomus, Radopholus similis, Rotylenchoides variocaudatus, Tylencholaimus teres and Irantylenchus clavidorus (Egypt); Amplimerlinius spp., Basiria spp., Bidera latipons, Coslenchus spp., Crossonema spp., Gracilacus micoletzky, Nothocriconema spp., Rotylenchus spp. and Trichotylenchus spp. (Jordan); Dolichodorus spp. (Libya); Boleodorus spp. (Morocco); Belonolaimus longicaudatus and Subanguina spp. (Saudi Arabia); Paratrophurus lobatus (Sudan); and Zeldia thornei (Tunisia). Some other genera are reported from two countries such as: Criconemoides spp., Hemicycliophora spp., Nothocriconema spp., Paratrichodorus spp. and Rotylenchus spp. (Egypt and Jordan); and Criconema spp. (Jordan and Saudi Arabia). Some genera occur in three countries such as: Hemicriconemoides spp. (Egypt, Jordan and Saudi Arabia); Macroposthonia spp. (Jordan, Morocco and Saudi Arabia); Merlinius spp. (Egypt, Jordan and Morocco); and Psilenchus spp. (Egypt, Jordan and Sudan). Certain other nematode genera are more common and distributed in several or most Arab countries such as: Anguina spp., Aphelenchoides spp., Aphelenchus spp., Criconemella spp., Ditylenchus spp., Helicotylenchus spp., Heterodera spp., Hoplolaimus spp., Longidorus spp., Meloidogyne spp., Paratylenchus spp., Pratylenchus spp., Rotylenchulus spp., Trichodorus spp. Tylenchorhynchus spp., Tylenchulus spp., Tylenchus spp. and Xiphinema spp.
