Detailed coverage of invasive species threatening livelihoods and the environment worldwide

Abstract

Nematodes of the geni Xiphinema Cobb, 1913 (Nematoda: Longidoridae) and Paralongidorus Siddiqi, Hooper & Khan 1963 (Nematoda: Longidoridae) in the wine growing regions of Austria - morphometry and distribution of the species.

Abstract

Soil samples were taken from the winegrowing regions of Austria to analyse the occurrence of nematodes of the genera Xiphinema and Paralongidorus. 734 of the samples were from the rhizosphere of grapevine, the others (892) were taken from fallow and arable land. Furthermore samples were collected from the rhizosphere of Vitis vinifera ssp. silvestris along the rivers Danube and March. Four species of the genus Xiphinema were recognized: X. vuittenezi, X. diversicaudatum, X. brevicolle and X. pachtaicum. X. diversicaudatum is a nepovirus vector. According to our own observations all species are associated with the rhizosphere of grapevine but are not specific parasites. Of the genus Paralongidorus maximus was registered. The geographical distribution of the species in Austria and their morphometry are described and discussed.
