Abstract

The main diseases of maize in Croatia are described, with information on symptoms, biology and significance in seed production. The diseases are: anthracnose (caused by Colletotrichum graminicola), cob rot (caused by Gibberella zeae, F. moniliforme [G. fujikuroi] and Nigrospora oryzae [Khuskia oryzae]), leaf blight (caused by Helminthosporium turcicum [Setosphaeria turcica]), leaf spot (caused by H. carbonum [Cochliobolus carbonum] and Kabatiella zeae), crazy top (caused by Sclerophthora macrospora) and smut (caused by Ustilago maydis [U. zeae]).
