Invasive Species Compendium

Detailed coverage of invasive species threatening livelihoods and the environment worldwide

Abstract

Terrestrial planarians (Platyhelminthes: Tricladida: Terricola) predaceous on terrestrial gastropods.

Abstract

This chapter describes the taxonomy and systematics of the Tricladida (terrestrial Tricladida, Bipaliidae, Rhynchodemidae, Geoplanidae), general biology and ecology (physical ecology, reproduction and reproductive ecology, natural enemies), terrestrial planarians as invasive species, their feeding and prey-handling strategies (search behaviour, capture, ingestion and digestion, pseudoparasitism or symbiosis, prey preferences) and their role in biological control.
