Abstract

Antiproliferative activity of Thai medicinal plant extracts on human breast adenocarcinoma cell line.

Abstract

The ethanolic extracts of 9 Thai medicinal plants (Garcinia mangostana pericarp, Phyllanthus amarus [P. niruri] whole plant, Passiflora foetida aerial part, Ardisia elliptica fruit, Morinda citrifolia fruit, Aegle marmelos fruit, Heliotropium indicum whole plant, Stephania venosa [Stephania rotunda] bulb and Thunbergia laurifolia leaf) were tested for antiproliferative activity against SKBR3 human breast adenocarcinoma cell line using MTT assay. G. mangostana showed the most potent activity, with IC50 value of 15.45±0.50 µg/ml. However, all the plant extracts showed activity in potential range for further investigation on cancer cells.
