Abstract

Report of a project on the Atelier region on the control of exotic invasive species and the rehabilitation of islets and terrestrial sites of ecological interest.

Abstract

A summary is presented of a study of flora and fauna on Mont Ntringui, Anjouan, Comoros. Floral and faunistic inventories were compiled and exotic invasive species were identified. Several endemic forest species are listed. Exotic invasive plant species included: Psidium guajava, P. cattleianum, Lantana camara, Litsea glutinosa, Calophyllum inophyllum, Acacia auriculiformis, Clidemia hirta and Agave sisalana. Data on fauna are incomplete. One hundred species of birds were identified (including 39 migratory species) and 10 endemic species of reptiles. Recommendations are given for the ecological rehabilitation of this area.
