Abstract

Life history of solanum fruit fly Bactrocera latifrons (Hendel) (Tephritidae: Diptera).

Abstract

The average incubation period and egg hatchability of the solanum fruit fly (B. latifrons) was 1.19 days and 82.5, respectively. Immediately after hatching, the larvae started feeding on the host (Solanum melongena) tissues. The larvae moulted twice. Thus, there were 3 larval instars. The second and third instars were voracious feeders and resulted in complete deterioration of the host tissues. The total duration of life cycle was approximately 18 days.
