Abstract

A new seed treatment technology and its application in organic farming.

Abstract

The need of controlled and guaranteed seeds involves a chemical or physical treatment through the use of different kinds of energy. A new method, based on the use of aerated steam, has been developed within a project funded by EU and has provided good results for the control of seed borne pathogens on cereals such as Fusarium moniliforme [Gibberella moniliformis], Tilletia caries, Drechslera graminea [Pyrenophora graminea], and Septoria nodorum [Phaeosphaeria nodorum]. The results obtained in Italy against F. moniliforme on rice grains are summarized.
