Abstract

P10c: a new biological control agent for control of fire blight which can be sprayed or distributed using honey bees.

Abstract

A new strain of P. agglomerans, P10c, was isolated from blossoms of pear collected from New Zealand. P10c consistently reduced fire blight (Erwinia amylovora) incidence on immature pear fruits in the laboratory, and reduced the incidence of fire blight on apple and pear flowers in experimental orchards when sprayed or distributed using honeybees before inoculation with E. amylovora.
