Abstract

Testing of seed-borne fungi of hybrid rice and effect of Baohuoji on seed germination.

Abstract

In a study conducted to determine the presence of seedborne fungi and effect of Baohuoji (a new seed coating formulation) on seed germination, Aspergillus sp., Trichoconiella padwickii [Alternaria padwickii], Alternaria spp., and Fusarium spp. were identified as the main seedborne fungi on the seed of 14 major hybrid rice combinations from Yuanjiang, Changde, Changsa, and Linli in Hunan, China. The number of fungi on the seeds significantly decreased on seeds stored for 1-2 years. Seed treatment with Baohuoji increased seed germination rate by 0.3-15.9% compared with the control.
