Botrytis porri in onion seed crops and onion seed.
Nine fields direct-seeded with onion were surveyed in central Washington during the spring and summer of 2001 for Botrytis spp. associated with onion seed crops. Fungal isolates isolated from whole plants and seeds were identified as B. porri based on colony morphology, growth rate, spore and sclerotium characteristics, and nucleotide sequence analysis. This is thought to be the first report of the natural infection of onion by B. porri [Botryotinia porri], and the first report of seedborne B. porri on onion.
