Abstract

This second of three planned volumes on the medicinal and poisonous plants of South East Asia presents a mixture of species with a long-standing reputation in traditional medicine and species that have been well investigated phytochemically or pharmacologically, but are poorly known in the South East Asian region. For genera information is included under the headings: major species, vernacular names, origin and geographical distribution, uses, production and international trade, properties, botanical description, growth and development, other botanical information, ecology, propagation and planting, diseases and pests, harvesting, handling after harvest, genetic resources and breeding, prospects and literature. For species descriptions information is given under the headings: vernacular names, distribution, uses, observations, and selected sources.
