Invasive Species Compendium

Detailed coverage of invasive species threatening livelihoods and the environment worldwide

Abstract

A synopsis of the genus Atriplex L. (Chenopodiaceae) in Saudi Arabia.

Abstract

The genus Atriplex is revised from Saudi Arabia. In all, 10 species are reported, out of which seven are native (Atriplex coriacea, A. dimorphostegia, A. farinosa, A. glauca, A. halimus, A. leucoclada and A. tatarica), and three are introduced and cultivated/naturalized (A. canescens, A. semibaccata and A. suberecta). The study has recorded the presence of the following new taxa: Atriplex dimorphostegia f. collenettea f. nov., and Atriplex leucoclada var. mandavillea var. nov. The status and history of genera segregated from Atriplex is discussed. A key for identification of taxa recognized and their descriptions are given. Notes on nomenclature, variation pattern, ecology, distribution maps, local names and uses are provided, and a list of introduced and cultivated species is appended.
