Abstract

Catches of the cockchafer, Melolontha melolontha (Linnaeus, 1758) (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae), at a moth trap in mid-Wales.

Abstract

A Rothamsted moth trap was established at Llysdinam Field Centre, Newbridge-on-Wye in mid-Wales since 1975. Tabulated data are presented on the total number of cockchafers caught in each year; number of days over which they were caught; the day by which half the yearly total had been caught, day one being the day on which the first specimen was caught without referring to calendar date; number of days on which cockchafers were caught (active days); and number of active days by which half the chafers were caught. Data on the mean daily weight of cockchafer caught in 1984 and 1996 are also given.
