Evaluation on some biological and demographic parameters of Dysaphis plantaginea Passerini (Homoptera: Aphididae) reared on different apple cultivars.
The developmental time, longevity and fecundity of rosy apple aphid (D. plantaginea) and the tolerance of apple cultivars (Golden Delicious, Red Delicious, Renetta del Canada, Florina, Golden Lasa and Golden Orange) upon which the aphids were reared, were examined. The intrinsic rate of natural increase of the aphids started from 0.06 to 0.11/day for Florina and Golden Orange and to 0.21-0.25/day for the other 4 cultivars, with the highest value registered for Golden Lasa. All the biological and demographic parameters evaluated such as larval survival, mean generation time and net productive rate, were lower in Florina and Golden Orange compared to the other cultivars. The movement of the aphids in Golden Orange and Florina was from the leaves to the stems.
