Hypsipyla robusta, tun (Toona ciliata) fruit and shoot borer outbreak [in] Punjab.
Hypsipyla robusta, a serious pest of mahogany and cedar plantations, was recorded on almost all fruit-bearing tun (Toona ciliata) trees in and around Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, Punjab, India. The flowers and fruits were observed and damage symptoms are described. Almost 80% of flowering trees surveyed showed infestation of the fruit borer, and in many cases the attack was so severe that the main trunk and branches of trees were covered with the silk threads of larvae. Borer population declined considerably by the second half of May.
