Abstract

Identification of latent and mottle viruses in Andean potatoes in the departments of Caldas and Tolima.

Abstract

In a study designed to determine the main virus diseases in potato (Solanum tuberosum) in the departments of Caldas and Tolima, Colombia, foliage and tuber samples of the varieties Argentina, Salentuna and Parda Pastusa were collected in the production zones in the towns of Marulanda and Manizales (Caldas) and Herveo (Tolima). ELISA was used to detect the presence of Andean potato latent tymovirus (APLV) and Andean potato mottle comovirus (APMoV). We used the reagents and protocols of the International Potato Center (CIP), Lima, Peru. The serological tests revealed high incidences and concentrations of these two viruses in the samples evaluated.
