Abstract

The insect fauna associated with horehound (Marrubium vulgare L.) in western Mediterranean Europe and Morocco: potential for biological control in Australia.

Abstract

Marrubium vulgare L. (Lamiaceae) was surveyed in western Mediterranean Europe and Morocco to identify the phytophagous insect fauna associated with this weed and to select species having some potential as biological control agents. Twenty-seven insect species were found to feed on the plant. Two Lepidopteran species, Chamaesphecia mysiniformis and Wheeleria spilodactylus, have been introduced into Australia to control the weed.
