The UK Pesticide Guide 2000.
This guide provides a list of products actively marketed in the UK which have full or provisional approval for use in agriculture, horticulture, forestry or control of weeds in aquatic situations. Herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, other pesticides and plant growth regulators are covered. Changes since the 1999 edition are listed at the beginning of the publication which is divided into 5 sections. Section 1 provides introductory information including: how to use the Guide; definitions; pesticide legislation; approval; guidance on use of pesticides; protection of bees; the campaign against illegal poisoning of wildlife; chemicals subject to the Poisons Law; occupational exposure limits; poisoning by pesticides - first aid measures; agricultural pesticides and water; use of herbicides in or near water; pesticide use in forestry; pesticides used as seed treatments; and aerial application of pesticides. The second section provides information on adjuvants. Section 3 lists the pesticides appropriate for treatment of pests, diseases and weeds on individual crops, while section 4 provides detailed pesticide profiles, including information on: products containing the active ingredient; uses; efficacy; crop safety and restrictions; special precautions and environmental safety; protective clothing/label precautions; withholding period; latest application/harvest interval; approval; and maximum residue level. Appendices are provided in Section 5, and include: a list of suppliers of pesticides and adjuvants; useful contacts; keys to crop and weed growth stages; a key to label requirements for protective clothing; key to numbered label precautions; and a key to abbreviations and symbols. An index of proprietary names of pesticides and adjuvants is provided.
