Study on some pathogenic ciliates from the mantle cavity of marine molluscs.
In a study on the pathogenetic ciliates from mantle cavity of marine molluscs, 4 species of ciliates were collected from Argopecten irradians, Mactra antiquata and Ruditapes philippinarum in the coastal areas of Shandong, China.. The 4 collected ciliates were examined and identified as Paralembus digitiformis, Paranophrys marina, Parauronema virginnianum and Pseudocohnilembus persalinus. The P. persalinus was found to be a synonym of P. longisetus based on their structure of infraciliature. The morphological characteristics, niches and taxonomic positions of the 4 species are described; and their infestation patterns and ways for their control discussed.
