Genital mycoplasmas isolated from breeding bulls.
67 preputial washings and 10 semen samples from 4 state farm and 1 sperm production centre were cultured for isolation of mycoplasma spp and ureaplasma spp. They were inoculated into growth media and the results were evaluated in 12 samples (17.9%) of preputial washings were found to be mycoplasma positive while 6 of them (8.9%) were ureaplasma positive. Mycoplasmas and ureaplasmas were detected after culture examination of sperm samples from 3 state farm. No isolation was made from sperm production centre. The isolated strains were biochemical tested and sent to the Central Veterinary Laboratories (Weybridge, UK) for further investigation. The strains were identified as M. bovis, M. bovirhinis, A. laidlawii and U. diversum.
