Abstract

Studies on grading and pre-packaging of some bacterial wilt resistant brinjal (Solanum melongena L.) varieties.

Abstract

Field and laboratory experiments were carried out during rabi 1997-98 to study the grading and pre-packaging of some bacterial wilt (Ralstonia solanacearum) resistant brinjal (Solanum melongena) varieties. The varieties SM-141, SM-6-6-C, DPL-B-4 and Arka Keshav showed least mortality due to bacterial wilt (0.01%). SM-6-6-C recorded the highest number of fruits (59%) in the medium size grade (30-50 g), while SM-141 recorded the lowest physiological loss of weight (3.15%) and maximum shelf life (11 days) under 150 gauge non-ventilated polythene bags.
