Detailed coverage of invasive species threatening livelihoods and the environment worldwide

Abstract

Asiatic clam, Corbicula fluminea, in northwestern Patagonia (Argentina).

Abstract

The invasive Asiatic clam, Corbicula fluminea (Müller, 1778), is reported from the Negro River, at Chimpay, in the Patagonian shrubland, Argentina. The invasion seems to have occurred in 1997-1998, as revealed by its absence in field assessments made up to January 1997 and the presence of a layer of empty Corbicula shells in the dry sand banks left by the flooding of the river in winter 1998.
