Abstract

Estimates of genetic correlations between pelvic measurements and calving ease for Australian Angus.

Abstract

In 1989-96, hip height and height, width and area of the pelvis were recorded on 750 Aberdeen-Angus cows, and calving ease was scored for approximately 20 000 calvings. The genetic correlation of direct with maternal genetic effects in respect of ease of calving was -0.5. Direct correlations between ease of calving and pelvic measurements at 300-700 days of age were 0.21-0.65, the corresponding direct-maternal genetic correlations being -0.27 to -0.51.
