Abstract

A series of 2-benzylamino-1,3,5-triazine derivatives was synthesized and herbicidal activities were evaluated in Echinochloa oryzicola [E. oryzoides], Monochoria vaginalis, Scirpus juncoides, Rotala indica, E. crus-galli, Digitaria ciliaris, Stellaria media, Chenopodium album and Amaranthus lividus. The 4-methyl-6-trifluoromethyl derivatives on the triazine ring exhibited high herbicidal activity, as well as 3- or 4-halogeno derivatives on the benzene ring in 2-benzylamino-4-methyl-6-trifluoromethyl-1,3,5-triazine. The photosynthetic electron transport (PET) inhibitory activities of 2-(3-chlorobenzylamino)-4-methyl-6-trifluoromethyl-1,3,5-triazine and 2-(4-chlorobenzylamino)-4-methyl-6-trifluoromethyl-1,3,5-triazine were greater than those of simazine and atrazine.
