Cold storage destroys fruit flies.
Trials were performed to determine the survival of Ceratitis rosa, C. capitata and C. cosyra at 4 different temperatures. The immature stages of the 3 species were exposed to 1.0, 5.5, 7.5 and 25.0°C. The 25.0°C group served as a control. The treatment groups were exposed to the experimental temperatures for 3 weeks and then placed at 25°C for 1 week. No survival occurred after exposure to 1.0, 5.5 or 7.5°C. Survival only occurred at 25°C.
