Abstract

Management of early pests of maize using seed treatment with systemic insecticides.

Abstract

The damage caused to maize in Brazil by the major groups of subterranean (Termitidae, Scaptocoris castaneum, Diabrotica speciosa, Astylus atromaculatus, Scarabaeidae, and Melanotus spp.) and superficial pests (Elasmopalpus lignosellus, Frankliniella williamsi, Nezara viridula and Dichelops furcatus, Deois flavopicta and Spodoptera frugiperda) is described. The use of seed treatment for control is discussed and notes are given on the effect of insecticides on germination, the use of graphite in planting media, and equipment.
