Abstract

Surveys of vegetables in the southern and northern growing regions of mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar during 1997 and 1998 indicated the presence of Clavibacter michiganensis subsp. michiganensis isolated from wilted tomato plants and seed, Ralstonia solanacearum isolated from tomato and potato in all the growing areas surveyed and, in 1998, this pathogen was detected for the first time in Zanzibar on tomato and aubergine, and Pseudomonas corrugata isolated from tomato at one location.
