Summary of turf cultural and disease problems: 1998.

Abstract

Common turf diseases in Ohio, USA, in 1998 included pink snow mould (Monographella nivalis), leaf spot, red thread (Laetisaria fuciformis), necrotic ring spot (Leptosphaeria korrae), powdery mildew, brown patch (Rhizoctonia solani), Pythium blight (P. aphanidermatum and P. ultimum), fairy rings, dollar spot (Sclerotinia homoeocarpa), rust (Puccinia spp.), and gray leaf spot (Pyricularia grisea [Magnaporthe grisea]). Many turf problems were related to unusual weather conditions in 1998. Turfgrass seed head production, turf quality, summer turf management, lawn mowing, and turf reseeding are also discussed.
