Abstract

Timber characteristics and pulp properties of the triploid of Populus tomentosa.

Abstract

The results of wood analysis indicate that the average fibre length of the triploid of Populus tomentosa was 1.09mm, longer than that of other samples tested, and it had a higher ratio of length to width and smaller ratio of cell-wall thickness to lumen diameter. It's concluded by using the method of KP pulping that pulps of the triploid of Populus tomentosa were more readily cooked and had improved bleaching properties, brightness, yield and physical intensity. It was further confirmed that triploid of Populus tomentosa is a promising raw material for the pulp and paper making industry.
