Abstract

Control of woody plants with Togar BT.

Abstract

The effectiveness of Togar BT for the control of woody perennial weeds was evaluated in an area which had not been treated for 5 years, in Argentina, in 1986. The weeds present comprised Larrea divaricata, Condalia microphylla, Discaria americana, Chuquiraga erinacea, Prosopis alpataco, P. caldenia, Geoffroea decorticans, Acantholippia seriphioides and Aloysia gratissima. The results showed P. alpacato, P. caldenia, A. gratissima and D. decorticans to be highly susceptible; C. mycrophilla and A. seriphioides to be susceptible; D. americana and C. erinacea to be tolerant; and L. divaricata to be highly tolerant. The cost for the control of an area of 1 ha with 1150 weed plants was estimated at US$73, including 8 hours of labour costs.
