Abstract

Formulated feed based on aquatic weed Azolla and fish meal for rearing medium carp Osteobrama belangeri (Valenciennes).

Abstract

The nutritional value of 2 diets containing Azolla pinnata powder, fish meal, mineral and vitamin supplements (Feed-A) or rice bran and mustard oil cake (Feed-B), fed to O belangeri fry for 90 days, were evaluated. Fish in fertilized ponds with no feed supplements served as the control. Weight gain of fish fed on Feed-A, Feed-B and the control fish was 635.0, 480.6 and 331.4 g, respectively. Feed-A had better feed conversion efficiency and protein efficiency ratio (1.75 and 3.79, respectively) compared with Feed-B (1.995 and 3.2, respectively).
