Abstract

Commercial-scale trials on the application of ethyl formate, carbonyl sulphide and carbon disulphide to wheat.

Abstract

Carbonyl sulfide (as gas), carbon disulfide (as liquid) and ethyl formate (as solution in water) were tested as fumigants in silos of wheat (50 t) in Australia. Experimental maximum residue limits (MRLs) were proposed; 10 mg/kg for carbon disulfide, 0.2 mg/kg for carbonyl sulfide and 1 mg/kg for ethyl formate. The experimental MRLs were not exceeded in any grain or mill sample. Control of insects (Tribolium castaneum, Rhyzopertha dominica, Sitophilus oryzae) was 99-100%.
