Abstract

Migrating butterflies in 1996 (fifty-seventh report) (Lepidoptera).

Abstract

Data of 32 species of migratory Lepidoptera, recorded by 166 observers during 1996 in the Netherlands, are presented. The most spectacular phenomenon was the mass influx of (dead) Cynthia cardui and Autographa gamma, washed ashore on the West Friesian Islands in August. Nomophila noctuella was also very numerous in 1996. Heliothis nubigera was recorded for the 4th time. Leptidea sinapis was indigenous in the extreme south of the province of Limburg. One specimen of Saturnia pyri was recorded.
