Invasive Species Compendium

Detailed coverage of invasive species threatening livelihoods and the environment worldwide

Abstract

The host ranges of rice planthoppers and leafhoppers and their relation with surrounding non-rice habitats.

Abstract

Weekly sampling of insects on rice and its surrounding habitats showed that Nilaparvata lugens did not survive on grasses and sedges, while Sogatella furcifera could survive on some of them. Several specimens of N. lugens and Nephotettix virescens were able to lay eggs on plants in non-rice habitats. Toya spp. and Tagosodes pusanus found in these non-rice habitats supplied host eggs for the egg parasitoids (Anagrus spp. and Oligosita spp.) of rice planthoppers.
