Abstract

Specific detection of bean yellow mosaic virus and clover yellow vein virus by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) using monoclonal antibodies.

Abstract

The use of indirect triple-antibody sandwich (TAS)-ELISA for the specific detection of bean yellow mosaic potyvirus (BYMV) and clover yellow vein potyvirus (ClYVV) was investigated. The results showed that TAS-ELISA using a single monoclonal antibody (MAb) against BYMV or against ClYVV did not provide satisfactory results because of the many serological variabilities in BYMV and ClYVV. TAS-ELISA using a mixture of more than 2 BYMV-specific MAbs or ClYVV-specific MAbs could, however, be used for the specific detection and identification of BYMV and ClYVV.
